Welcome to the Derwent Singers' Web Site
We are a Derby-based chamber choir consisting of about twenty-five singers who regularly perform concerts in and around the Derby area. Practising once a week on a Thursday evening in the Friargate area of Derby, we perform a varied repertoire of music to a very high standard. We are a really friendly bunch of people, both young and old(er!), from varying backgrounds who enjoy singing and performing.
The group’s performance of Antonio Teixeira’s Te Deum with Nottingham’s Sinfonia Chorale and The Baroque Ensemble, was hailed as ‘one of Derby's outstanding musical events of 2011’.
Contrasting with this lavish and grandly-structured work from Portugal's Golden Age, one of our most recent performances was of John Rutter's Toad of Toad Hall in the riding school at Calke Abbey.
All this reflects the choir’s ability to diversify and entertain. Their current music director, Richard Roddis, singer, composer and conductor, enthuses the choir and audiences with his musical insights and humorous touch. ‘Come and Sing’ days, tours and social gatherings are all part of the choir’s life.
