COME AND SING: BACH AND PERGOLESI

Bach's joyous and sparkling Missa Brevis in A major forms the centrepiece of the day, together with movements from Pergolesi's heart-wrenching Stabat Mater. We'll have a look at JSB's formidable double-choir motet, Singet dem Herrn, as well as a Cantata movement which was later transformed into the monumental B minor Mass - we can compare the two versions and see the master at work!

Chaddesden,

Derby, DE21 6ET

BAROQUE IN THE SUMMERTIME

with period ensemble led by Nicolette Moonen

Programme to include:

J.S. Bach:   Missa Brevis in A Major

Pergolesi:    Stabat Mater (excerpts)

Baroque in the Summertime features the music of J.S. Bach and his contemporaries. The Missa Brevis in A major is a joyous and sparkling work, extremely sunny in nature although composed for Christmas! Bach knew Pergolesi's expressive Stabat Mater, and even made his own arrangement of it. There will be movements from two Cantatas, and the great motet, Singet dem Herrn, as well as instrumental pieces played by the period ensemble, led by baroque expert, Nicolette Moonen.
